Daily Recap:
A cold and windy walk through the Town Forest today. With 30 mph wind gusts, the birds stayed low and quiet, making for a very inactive afternoon.
Every bird I recorded was seen, not heard—except for the Ovenbirds, who never seem to care about the conditions and just keep on singing.
I got a brief but satisfying look at a male Bay-breasted Warbler, tucked alone in the middle of a small pine.
One of the nicer surprises came over the pond, where a mixed flock of 16 Tree and Barn Swallows zipped through the air. It’s not often I see that many over the water at once, so it was a great sight to take in on an otherwise quiet day.
With temperatures in the low 50s and more rain and wind in the forecast, I imagine most walks will feel like this until the weather finally breaks.
