Daily Recap:
A solid 53 species today after being delayed by a rainy morning.
A flock of 7 Greater Yellowlegs were on the pond flats when I arrived—a new species for the Town Forest. Above them were 8 Barn Swallow, 6 Tree Swallow, and 3 Northern Rough-winged Swallow, zipping back and forth over the water.
From across the pond, both a Black-throated Green Warbler and a Prairie Warbler were singing, marking their first appearances of the season also!
12 warbler species made an appearance today—adding 5 more to yesterday’s total and bringing us to 12 out of our goal of 20+. We’re right on track as migration picks up!
I plan to keep embracing the rain in the days ahead. If these conditions continue, we could be in for a fallout—and I am ready for whatever surprises come my way.
