Daily Recap:
I had some time this morning to watch the birds from my desk after a meeting. At that point, it was only lightly raining, and the feeders were surprisingly active.
The usual yard regulars were coming and going: Carolina Wren, Downy Woodpecker, White-breasted Nuthatch, and American Goldfinch. I’ve noticed the White-breasted Nuthatches are nesting in one of the birdhouses lined along our fence, which is exciting to see. Another house is taken over by House Sparrows—of course, that’s no surprise.
Warbler activity around the feeder was solid despite the weather. I heard Common Yellowthroat, American Redstart, Pine Warbler, and one especially vocal Magnolia Warbler, who sang non-stop all morning. I never caught a glimpse of it, but it was definitely making itself known from somewhere in the trees and brush.
Tomorrow, I’m planning to head back to the Town Forest after work, hoping the rain holds off long enough for a walk. It’s been nice to take a break and watch the yard birds for a change.
The peak of the storm is expected around midnight, so I’m crossing my fingers that the birds are tough enough to ride it out.
