Daily Recap:
Arriving after school in the late afternoon with a steady downpour, I didn’t expect much activity. It was quiet overall, but a few small flocks of warblers were staying low to the ground. Two species stood out—8 Black-and-white Warblers and 6 male Common Yellowthroats! It shocked me that there were no females.
It ended up being a peaceful walk in the rain, with each group of birds keeping to themselves in scattered pockets along the trail.
Unfortunately, due to the quietness of the trail, I wasn’t able to get my Bird of the Day: Hairy Woodpecker. I did spot one at my home feeder, but that doesn’t count!
Finishing with 37 species on the day, I was still happy to get out regardless of the rain. I’ll continue to enjoy these peaceful walks through the mist for the rest of the week—until the sun returns, bringing with it the peak of migration here in New Hampshire.
